Flat Plans and Rationales

These are my flat plans for my magazine. These plans are for my front cover and my contents page. These plans show the layout i am going for with my magazine, the front cover contains multiple sell lines around the main image, this means there is a lot of different things that can attract my target audience. My contents page is set out quite professionally with images with captions on the left and the contents with heading on the right.

                                 Front Cover Rational

Fonts After looking through many potential fonts i could use for my magazine i have decided that i will use multiple fonts on my front cover as this will be interesting for the reader to look at and the will make each individual sell line stand out more in comparison to them all being the same font this would look vey boring. My fonts on my front cover all are unique, my masthead font which is 'Lemon/Milk Regular' this font brings out both the red and black in the masthead and gives the letters an edgy look which i quite liked, other fonts featured on my front cover range from ' Keep Calm Regular' to 'Bebas Regular'. The majority of my fonts on my front cover came from 'DaFont' a website made where you can find and download thousands of different fonts.

Main Image The main image will be in the centre of the front page and it will be quite big and will dominate the page, as i am hoping the image of my model will attract people to the magazine. the pose he will be doing will be dominant to go with the dominant theme of the image. The facial expressions used will be a serious/motivated look, not smiling it will be more of a focused facial expression. This technique has been used in a lot of other successful fitness magazines such as the fitness magazine giants Mens Health.

Colour Scheme I will be keeping a consistent colour scheme throughout my magazine this will be a standard white background with yellow, red and black text all involved.  These colours will all stand out well on a white background, the yellow will be less used for the text and more for a mini background for text just to help the sell line stand out that bit more as having a chunk of yellow on a red, white and black front cover will throw the reader and catch the readers eye.

Language My magazine will be informal as in the northeast the majority of my target audience will speak informally and the feedback i was given from a part of my target audience was to make it informal using north east terms to keep the magazine regional, therefore this is what i am going to do i am going to keep it regional and informal. I think making sell lines less serious with use of things such as alliteration will be a good technique as if the sell lines good/memorable this will keep the reader thinking about it.

Contents Page Rational

Fonts I am going to keep the contents page fonts quite simple and not use too many different fonts. this is because I want my contents page to look organised and professional and not chaotic, as the reader must be able to navigate the magazine easily using the contents page. The fonts I am planning on using is 'Calibri Light' this font is simple but effective as it looks professional and does not jump at you on the page which is what i want for my contents page, the other font which will be for the subheadings is 'Bebas Neue Regular' this font stands out in red which is what colour the sub headings will be and I believe it will fit in well on the contents page.

Images I am planning on having two images on my contents page. The first image I am planning on getting a good picture of 'Goals' soccer centre which supplies pitches for the public to play on, it has became very popular in sunderland and i think for a regional fitness magazine it will incorporate well into the magazine as this is somewhere you can play football for hours or join competitive leagues this keeps thousands of people fit and active in the North East. the other image I am planning on having my model possibly working out with weights, with a caption to do with a gym workout of some sort this works well within a fitness magazine and follows the genre this is why I have this image idea. In other magazines I have seen an image of someone working out on a contents page and I thought it fit in well on the page and was not too dominant.

Colour Scheme The colour scheme for the contents page is going to be very similar to the front cover however it will be more organised and constructed. Also there will not be any yellow on my contents page as i am going to keep the contents page professional. I am planning to make all of the sub headings red along with the page numbers, then below there will be black text this will be the colour scheme for my contents page. however the masthead will be exactly the same as the front cover as this is the magazine title and cannot really be changed.

Double Page Rational

Fonts I will use multiple fonts within my double page spread. For my masthead I will use Helvetica Neue Condensed, the reason I am going to use this font as it makes the masthead stand out well on the page, it also suits both the colour red and black, in a larger text size he fonts very effective. for the subheadings for the exercises I will use the font Iowan Old Style Black, this font looks very good in bold black which is what I was looking for, it looks professional and also stands out on the page. for the descriptions underneath the images I will use a very common basic font Calibri Regular, I will use this as it's a good professional font for descriptions as its easy to read and doesn't overpower the images.

Images On my double page spread I am looking to use around 12 images in total, the reason I will be using so many images is because I am going to do my double page spread on an exercise routine therefore multiple examples must be shown for the reader to know what to do. These images will be clear and was for the reader to see, the images must be clear as the reader must know how to do the exercise therefore the example needs to be visible. The images can't be too big as 12 needs to fit on 2 pages along with descriptions therefore they can't be too big.

Colour Scheme The colour scheme for the double page spread will be very basic, this is because the images and general content is very important as it's more serious content therefore having a basic colour scheme is effective as the readers will focus more on the content and images than the way the pages looks. However even though my double page spread is mostly going to be black and white there will be red in the masthead also the page numbers and website link.

Billboard Rational

Fonts Although there will not be much text on the billboard the only font that will be used is 'Britannic Bold Regular'. The reason I will use this font is because the font looks good in bold which is what I am wanting my text to be in as a billboard must stand out and the text must be clear and very visible to the viewer, as people looking at the billboard will most likely not have long to look at it, therefore I will have the text stand out along with the image.

Images There will be one main image on the billboard, this is again because the viewers of the billboard will not have much time to look at the billboard therefore one simple but effective image will be used to get the message across and to advertise the brand as effectively as possible. i am planning on my image being a screenshot of my front cover, this will advertise the magazine in the best way possible and this makes the image very relevant and hopefully will advertise the brand as effectively as possible.

Colour Scheme The colour scheme for my billboard will link in with my magazine and website and I am planning on it being red, white and black the majority of the text will be a bold black to stand out, there will be a bit of red bold text also to make the billboard more visually attractive and more eye catching, I like the combination of red and black text on a white background as they contrast meaning they stand out even more which is very important for a billboard.

  2. Good level of detail with your rationale, you could even mention the sell lines and features in your contents page that will be used. You need to have a capital I, please amend. Don't forget to upload your rationale and flat plans for your ancillary tasks. You can make it clear how each page/product will be regional.
